Having conveyed Facebook to over 11 million offline phone users over five countries, mobile application provider U2opia is going to 'democratise' Twitter in the identical way. The company, which started in Gurgaon and has since spread to over 30 countries, utilises a indicating expertise called USSD (unstructured supplementary service data) to let basic and characteristic teletelephone users get access to Internet services.
U2opia came into reality in late 2010 and booted off the first offline Facebook service through Airtel a year later. "That was a time when a alallotmentment of companies were endeavouring to realise the criticalities of mobile-first markets and the emerging market user base," states CEO Sumesh Menon, who is founded in Gurgaon. "One of the key truths of these markets is that every person is not online. So we developed a stage called Fonetwish to help people stay attached to Internet properties without facts and figures on their phone," he adds. The business now has exclusive partnerships with Facebook, and more recently Twitter, to take these services offline through its 45-odd network partners globally.
USSD is the same expertise most prepaid users turn to when they have to ascertain their balance and utilised by service providers to push notes to users. "It essentially creates a meeting in which you are dragging facts and figures from the scheme. Because it is so easy it works on any telephone, even smartphones," explains Menon, supplementing that users can literally browse through content utilising figures. So one time logged in utilising a code, the user will bang figures to choose options like Like post on Facebook and pursue a user on Twitter.
